Choosing the best ice melt for Minnesota sidewalks

January 29th was a very busy day for ice melt sales here at Peterson Salt!

The freezing rain the night before glazed our driveways, sidewalks and parking lots, leaving a thick layer of ice impossible to walk on. For apartment managers and business owners we know that you worry about keeping your sidewalks clear for partons and residents. That’s why it’s important that you order the right product for your type of sidewalk or walkway and for the current temperature.

Here in Minnesota, we still have two more months of wintery weather in the forecast. As a provider of ice melt products in the Twin Cities, we want to make sure our customers know which products work best as the temperatures begin to rise.

At Peterson Salt, we carry seven different types of ice melt. (To read more about the differences between our products, check out our Ice Melt Products Page). As the temperature warms, we would recommend using one of our ice melt blends — either Powerthaw or Thaw Master. Both products combine calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium for effective melting at low temperatures with prices that will be easy on your budget. Powerthaw and Thaw Master are also color coated for easy application so that you don’t over-apply.

Another popular product this year are the Mag Chloride Pellets. This is a higher price point item, but it will work faster and more effectively than a blend — melting at temperates as low as 25 degrees below zero. Mag Chloride Pellets are also pet friendly and safe to use on metal surfaces.

At Peterson Salt & Water Treatment we are always keep a steady supply of ice melt on hand to meet your needs. When the ice and snow cover the sidewalks, we are ready to fill your order! Contact us today to discuss our ice melt products and ice melt prices. You can reach us at: 952-929-0422.
